Longwood Plantation was established in 1820, and is a Georgia Centennial Farm located in the southern-most portion of Screven County, Georgia.
Originally consisting of over 1,000 acres, the remaining 325 acres, owned by Patrick (Mike) Smith, is made up of prime woodland, pasture land, and 19 natural ponds. Of these natural ponds, several contain large deposits of high-grade, organic peat, rich in natural minerals and nutrients, and are surrounded by sandy ridges.
Longwood Plantation currently exists as a haven for all sorts of wildlife.

Longwood Prime Peat comes from one of these natural ponds, historically referred to as legendary Carolina Bays, many of which are located on Longwood Plantation. Carolina Bays are phenomenons of nature that are present in an area of the country that stretches from North Carolina to Northern Florida. A large number of these Bays are found in southeast Georgia. A number of different theories exist as to their formation.
